Max Brewer Memorial Causeway and Bridge
Titusville's Gateway to the Space Center
Thursday October 19, 2017
Heading north or southward on the Indian River Lagoon in Titusville, Florida you will pass under a spectacular concrete bridge called the Max Brewer Memorial Causeway Bridge that carries State Road 406 from Titusville to Merritt Island and the Canaveral National Seashore. After crossing east on the bridge you can exit on the left to Parrish Park to launch a boat, have a picnic or simply fish. Continuing east on SR-406 you will immediately enter the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and shortly be given the choice to continue straight to Canaveral National Seashore's Playlinda Beach or exit on a NE alternate route to Wildlife Drive where you can enjoy an hour or more of watching Florida's wildlife and beautiful birds (especially in the winter).
State Road 406 (SR 406), also known as Garden Street, is an east–west road in northern Titusville that connects Interstate 95 (SR 9) to U.S. Route 1 (SR 5). West of I-95, Garden St. is unsigned County Road 406, with its western terminus at Carpenter Road. East of US 1, it becomes A. Max Brewer Memorial Parkway (CR 402), part of the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway.
Titusville's Max Brewer Memorial Causeway and it's State Road 406 is one of the roads less traveled in Florida and is a MUST for those wanting to see some of Florida's still untouched areas. Wild Hogs, Bald Eagles and Alligators are a normal sight on this scenic roadway, so beware of animal right-of-ways and watch out as you journey into the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge.
State Road 406 turns into the Max Brewer Memorial Causeway in Titusville, Florida crossing the Indian River Lagoon into the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge.
