NASA Causeway
Merritt Island's Gateway to Kennedy Space Center
Saturday April 21, 2018
NASA or the National Aeronautic and Space Administration has a main public entrance as you travel east on State Road 405 toward Kennedy Space Center on Florida's coastline near Cape Canaveral and it's lighthouse. If you are boating on the Indian River Lagoon you'll more than likely travel under the NASA Causeway or SR 406 and depending on the height of your boat, you may have to ask for the drawbridge to be raised in your behalf. Unlike most causeways on the Indian River, the NASA Causeway has not been updated to a tall bridge allowing unattended access for boaters. While there are several other gates to the Space Center and Canaveral Airforce Station, This entrance host the Visitor's Center and it's tourist attractions just prior to the restricted entrance for government employees and contractors.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.
Most of our anglers opt to exit further north on I-95 to reach Kennedy Point Park or the Mosquito Lagoon, but we often find the fishing in close proximity of the NASA Causeway and The Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge.
The main entrance to KSC the Kennedy Space Center Tourist or Visitors Center is located on the NASA Causeway or State Road 406 on Merritt Island, Florida.
